Edison Cheerleading 2019 Tryout Information as of July 21, 2019
DO NOT MAKE VACATION PLANS AFTER AUGUST 4, 2019
August 5–August 6- Clinics/Tryouts in the small gym 4:30-7:30
August 7- Formal tryout time 4:30- ???
You will be evaluated each day at tryouts so you must attend all sessions
Wear shirt, shorts, tennis shoes, hair up and make sure they are school colors. No jewelry or long nails
Everything you need to know will be taught to youwith the exception of gymnastic skills.
DO NOT PLAN VACATIONS AFTER AUGUST 4! We will be having practice/choreography/camp up until Labor Day.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS- You must have all items completed or you will not be permitted to tryout
VHSL Physicaldated after May 1, 2019- must be on the current VHSL physical form. This form is different from the physical for school. The Edison High School Athletic Training Department will be offering sports physicals at Edison High School during the Spring. This physical will be good for all sports and out of season practices (green days, yellow days, weight room workouts) for the 2019-2020 school year. Date and Time to be determined. Your physical from last season is good until June 30th.
INSURANCE- If you do not have insurance it can be purchased through the school
Emergency Care Card- 2 copies one for athletic trainer and one for coach
Concussion Education Module
There have been some issues with the concussion module in the past, so they are allowing use to send a PowerPoint presentation. You simply print the signature page and sign it verifying that both the parent/guardian and athlete have read over the module. You will bring this page to school when you turn in your VHSL physical.
CHEERLEADING SEASON= HUGE TIME COMMITMENT!!!
Freshman and JV: up to 4 practices a week and Thursday games, JV cheerleaders may compete and will support the Varsity squad at district competition.
Varsity: 5 practices a week (Monday through Thursday and Saturday morning), Friday games, one practice a week may be held at an area cheer gym for tumbling lessons at an additional fee to the cheerleader and competing in VHSL sanctioned competitions
Cheerleading is a team sport! All practices and games are mandatory and will not be excused for outside obligations. If you cannot commit to cheering for the entire season then you should not tryout for the team.
REQUIREMENTS: All material will be taught to you at the clinics. Just bring a good attitude!!!
If you have cheered before at Edison, you are not automatically placed on a team. You are expected to improve from year to year. Coaches can tell who has been working on their skills and has not be working.
